Did you hear that we came *this close* to calling February “Bouncy, Happy Libraryland” month on WebJunction? No? *Whew*! Truth is, “Bouncy Happy Libraryland February” was more my idea, an idea that very quickly got me laughed out of meeting. And in retrospect that was a *really* good call. :) But the IDEA is rooted in all we are working on together this month. It’s quite a month! Here are some highlights, though it isn’t a full list. Feel free to add more goodies in the comments as I know this isn’t everything:

First, here are two quick bits of year round happiness: you can find us actviely joining in on the fun on friendfeed and Twitter.  Friend us, follow us, ask us, we’ll be there too!

While that is super cool stuff, we’ve got several unique bonuses for you on the main WebJunction page.  For example, you can see right off the bat that we are highlighting Library Management this month.  So if you are the manager, would like to be a manager, or are just more interested in helping your manager be more effective, we’ve got your back.

As the nice lady pictured on that page tells you:
“New Library Management Competencies help you plan your training

Visit the course catalog and you will see a new tab that reads Competencies. WebJunction has been compiling an index of the full spectrum of library practice and service competencies, starting with library management. This index will lead you to courses and content that address the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to manage a library—such as budgeting and funding, strategic planning, and project management. Watch for additional sections of the index—including Technology, Library Services, and more—to roll out soon.”

That is a smart lady! :)

On top of those tasty, tasty Competencies and courses, we have free events for you!

We’ve already had one free live event about “Spanish Outreach in Tough Economic Times” which is archived, free to view and is full of useful info and lively conversation.

Next up, on February 17th we will have a session on “Technology Services for Children“.

And then, on the 26th we have this sesion lined up for you: “Using Wimba Classroom to Train Librarians to Apply for Grants“. Excellent!

Finally, did you notice that we seem to be having reduced costs courses fairly regularly? This month’s deal is explained thusly:
“Understand the documentation crucial to effectively carrying out your responsibilities as a library administrator, including working with your board, budget, and staff. Sign up before February 28 and get a 50% discount!”

*Whew!* That’s a lot of happy! And you can bounce between the things listed above, your WebJunction friends, other courses and, well, the list could just go on and on! And even if you just pick one of the fun things listed above (or in the comments below) we hope WebJunction helps make your February a little more bouncy and happy. Even if you just crack a smile from a silly blog post theme. :)
